Broaden your skill set to allow you to plan, understand and undertake more adventurous and challenging sea journeys. Gain a deeper understanding of coastal navigation and the impact of weather and tides on your trip planning . Improve your proficiency in strokes, rescues, rolls, towing and dealing with typical sea kayaking incidents.

includes Theory (2 evenings) and Practical Session (1 Day).

Theory: Essential Coastal Navigation

Includes Coastal Navigation 1 Theory (2 Evenings) and Practical Session (1 Day)

The Coastal Navigation Course is open to any recreational sea kayaker and can be taken independently as a stand-alone course. It is designed to develop an understanding of tides and weather and how they impact on trip planning and safety at sea. A certificate of completion will be awarded on completion of course.

Applicants should have achieved Level 3 Sea Proficiency or equivalent before considering taking on this course.


Level 4 Sea Proficiency courses will be beginning again early next year. Dates will be posted here shortly.

Kayaking towards the North Stack, Ireland's Eye.
Learn to kayak safely and competently at sea as a member of a group. Increase your confidence as you learn to paddle in following winds, head winds and beam seas up to Force 3. Raise your seamanship skills and safety awareness as you gain further understanding of weather, tides and the environment. Improve your rescue and rolling techniques during a wet water session.
