Meet at RNLI slipway Howth.
We begin the course with an interactive session about equipment and safety, followed by a briefing on the introductory level syllabus. The morning will be spent on the water developing personal skills in boat handling. This will include basic strokes and manoeuvres.
We take a break and relax with coffee/tea and biscuits.
The afternoon session will be focused on improving your repertoire of strokes as you gain confidence with the sea conditions and your boat handling skills. Expect to be gently challenged in a fun and enjoyable way with rescue drills and some basic navigation exercises.
After a day of activity, enjoy a lunch at one of Howth’s famous sea food restaurants.
If weather conditions allow, we plan to take you on an extended sea trip to one of Dublin's offshore islands. Meet at a designated place, Howth, Skerries or Rush which we will have agreed before departure on Saturday. Before going to sea, a briefing session will be organised in order to plan the trip for the day. We will spend some time discussing tides weather conditions and points of interest en route. On the water we will concentrate on technique and seamanship to practice all the skills learned the previous day. Today's lunch will not be in the King Sitric but amidst the magical bird life and coastal scenery of the north Dublin coast.
We aim to be off the water by 4pm. We will have a debriefing session on dry land before departure.
If you are interested but can only manage only one of these days, feel free to call us and have a chat.
